용어 사전Glossary 이 화면의 말들the words on these screens

These are the words used on Mulmit's screens, defined the way this site uses them — including what is being compared with what. Each entry is three lines: what it is, how to read it, and the common mistake.

Prices outside market hours

Perpetual futures (perp)

A futures contract with no expiry. Instead of settling, traders exchange a periodic 'funding' fee that keeps the price tethered to the underlying.

How to read it
It trades 24 hours, so it keeps moving while Korean and US markets are closed — that is why we use it as an out-of-hours reference.
Common mistake
It is not a spot price. You cannot assume you could buy the actual share or coin at that level, and thin markets can drift away from it.
#

Mark price

The reference price an exchange computes for liquidation math — a blend of the order book and an external index rather than the last trade.

How to read it
It jumps around less than the last traded price, which makes it a steadier reference.
Common mistake
It is not a price you can necessarily fill at; the bid and ask will differ.
#

Versus the close

The change between the last official session close and the current reference price.

How to read it
It answers "how far has this moved since the market shut?"
Common mistake
It is not a forecast of the next opening price.
#

Implied won price

The dollar-quoted synthetic perpetual's mark price converted to won using the official published FX rate.

How to read it
A rough answer to "what is this trading at in won right now?"
Common mistake
The FX rate is a once-a-day official figure, not live, so it lags on days the currency moves a lot.
#

Official close

The confirmed regular-session close published through the FSC's public data service.

How to read it
It is the baseline the out-of-hours reference is measured against; the date is always shown.
Common mistake
Confirmation takes time, so a session that just ended may not be reflected yet.
#

Official FX rate

The won/dollar trading-reference rate the Bank of Korea publishes once each business day.

How to read it
It is the official conversion basis; the date shown is the rate's own date.
Common mistake
It is not a live rate — over weekends it stays fixed at the last published value.
#

Derivatives

Funding rate

The periodic fee longs and shorts exchange on a perpetual. Positive means longs pay shorts.

How to read it
Large positive values indicate crowded longs; negative indicates crowded shorts. It is usually annualised (APR) for comparison.
Common mistake
High funding does not mean a drop is coming, and each venue's neutral baseline differs.
#

Open interest (OI)

The total size of contracts still open — not yet closed out.

How to read it
Price up with OI up means new money; price up with OI down usually means shorts covering.
Common mistake
It is not volume. Volume is how much changed hands; OI is how much is still on the table.
#

Korean market

KOSPI 200

An index of 200 large listings on the KOSPI market, covering most of its market capitalisation.

How to read it
Treat it as the summary of how Korean large caps did.
Common mistake
It is a different number from the headline KOSPI index — different constituents and base.
#

ADR

A US-listed receipt representing shares of a foreign company.

How to read it
It trades while the Korean market is closed, so it works as an overnight cue. Always check the ratio of shares per ADR.
Common mistake
ADR price times FX is not the domestic share price — a premium or discount is normal.
#

5% ownership filing

Korea requires a filing when someone crosses 5% of a listed company, and again when that stake moves by more than one percentage point.

How to read it
Who holds how much, and whether the stated purpose is passive investment or management participation. A change of purpose is itself the news.
Common mistake
These are filed after the fact, within a deadline. A filing today does not mean the shares were bought today.
#

Material event report

A filing Korean listed companies must make for events that materially affect the company, such as share issues, mergers or litigation.

How to read it
The title alone tells you the category; the substance is in the original document.
Common mistake
This is a list of filings received, not a newswire. There is a lag between the event, the filing and this page.
#

IPO subscription

The window in which a company about to list sells new shares to the public. Investors apply during a short subscription period and receive an allocation set by demand.

How to read it
The price, subscription dates and payment date come from the registration statement filed with Korea's FSS. The listing date is set separately by the exchange.
Common mistake
The price in the original filing is indicative. Final terms arrive in an amendment that the disclosure API does not tabulate, so the filing itself is the source.
#

US filings and the Fed

13F (institutional holdings filing)

A quarterly filing (13F-HR) in which US managers running over $100M in equities report their holdings to the SEC.

How to read it
A snapshot as of quarter end, showing which manager held what, position by position.
Common mistake
It reflects quarter end and may be filed up to 45 days later, so it can differ from today's book. Short positions, bonds, cash, non-US listings and private stakes are excluded — this is not the whole portfolio.
#

Form 8-K (current report)

A filing US-listed companies make whenever something shareholders should know about occurs. Each reason carries a defined Item number.

How to read it
Earnings releases, executive changes and M&A land here. Titles shown are the standard headings for the official Item numbers.
Common mistake
It refreshes on a collection cycle (about an hour), so it is not a live newswire. Do not judge the content from the title — open the filing.
#

FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee)

The Federal Reserve body that sets the US policy rate. It publishes a statement after each meeting and, quarterly, members' economic projections (SEP).

How to read it
Each statement reuses most of the previous wording and edits a few passages, so reading what changed is the fastest way to read the meeting.
Common mistake
That wording changed and what it means for markets are separate questions. Mulmit shows only the changed passages, verbatim, and makes no directional call.
#

Dot plot

A chart of each FOMC member's own year-end policy-rate projection from the quarterly SEP. One dot is one member.

How to read it
The more dots cluster at a rate, the more members agree. Read it with the median and the central tendency.
Common mistake
These are projections at a point in time, not promises, and they can shift wholesale next quarter. They are also not the market-implied probabilities.
#

Crypto

Kimchi premium

How much more expensive a coin is on Korean exchanges than offshore.

How to read it
Positive means Korea is paying up, which usually happens when local demand surges.
Common mistake
It is not free arbitrage — transfer limits, withdrawal times, fees and FX are all excluded.
#

Fear & Greed index

A sentiment gauge from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed), blending volatility, volume and surveys.

How to read it
One number for how frightened or euphoric participants currently are.
Common mistake
It is not a buy or sell signal; extremes can persist for a long time.
#

Dominance

One coin's share of total crypto market capitalisation.

How to read it
Rising bitcoin dominance suggests money leaning to majors; falling suggests altcoins.
Common mistake
Different providers count different universes, and a rising share is not the same as a rising price.
#

Heat (Mulmit's own gauge)

Mulmit's 0 to 100 state gauge, combining funding, volatility, position in range and RSI.

How to read it
Higher means more crowded to one side. The components and their weights are shown alongside it.
Common mistake
Hot does not forecast a fall, it is not a buy or sell signal, and it is not the same number as a similarly named gauge elsewhere.
#

Liquidation

A leveraged position force-closed by the exchange because its margin ran out.

How to read it
Clusters of liquidations push price further the same way: long liquidations steepen falls, short liquidations steepen rallies.
Common mistake
The total shown is the sum of the venues that answered, not the whole market, and venues count them differently.
#

USDT·USDC

Stablecoin supply

How much dollar-pegged coin such as USDT and USDC is in circulation.

How to read it
A rising supply is often read as more dry powder waiting to enter crypto.
Common mistake
Issued is not invested. Providers also count different chains and coins, so totals differ.
#

Gas fee

What you pay a blockchain to process your transaction.

How to read it
Higher means the chain is busier. Units and typical levels differ completely between chains.
Common mistake
The figure shown is the base price at the moment of the query; what you actually pay depends on the transaction and the priority you set.
#

Macro and liquidity

Yield curve (inversion)

A long-dated government bond yield minus a short-dated one, usually the US 10-year minus the 2-year.

How to read it
Normally positive, because lending for longer pays more. Negative means the curve is inverted: the market expects rates to fall, which usually means it expects the economy to cool.
Common mistake
Inversion is not a recession. The historical lag has run one to two years and varied a lot, and the pace of re-steepening matters as much as the inversion.
#

Reverse repo (RRP)

A Federal Reserve facility where money funds and similar institutions park spare cash overnight for interest.

How to read it
A large balance means plenty of cash with nowhere better to go; a falling balance means that money moved into Treasuries or other assets.
Common mistake
The balance alone is not total liquidity. Read it next to reserves and the Treasury cash balance.
#

Treasury General Account (TGA)

The US Treasury's checking account at the Fed, which is the government's cash balance.

How to read it
It rises when taxes come in and falls when the government spends. A rising balance drains cash from the market; a falling one releases it.
Common mistake
Government flows are lumpy and calendar-driven. One day's move says little about the direction of liquidity.
#

Bank reserves

Money commercial banks hold at the Fed, the closest thing to ready cash in the banking system.

How to read it
Ample reserves make funding comfortable; a fast drain is when short-term rates start to spike.
Common mistake
There is no fixed level that counts as enough. Read the trend and its relationship to the other liquidity lines.
#

SOFR

The rate actually paid on overnight loans secured by US Treasuries, the benchmark for dollar short-term funding.

How to read it
It normally tracks the Fed's policy rate. Printing above it means overnight funding has tightened.
Common mistake
It reports what traded yesterday, not what will happen. Quarter-ends often produce temporary spikes for accounting reasons.
#

Fed total assets

The sum of Treasuries, agency debt and other assets held by the Federal Reserve.

How to read it
Growing means the Fed is adding money (quantitative easing); shrinking means it is withdrawing it (tightening).
Common mistake
The total is not the same as market liquidity. Where that money sits, in reserves or reverse repo or the Treasury account, changes what it does.
#

Dollar index

The dollar's value against a basket of major trading partners' currencies, expressed as an index.

How to read it
Rising means a stronger dollar, which usually weighs on emerging-market assets and commodities.
Common mistake
Different indexes use different baskets and weights, so their levels differ. None of them equals the won/dollar rate.
#

Economic release date

The date a statistical agency has announced it will publish a widely watched figure such as employment or inflation.

How to read it
Knowing what lands when helps you anticipate days on which prices may move sharply.
Common mistake
These are announced schedules and can change. A release being due tells you nothing about direction.
#

Risk and volatility

Financial stress index

A composite of credit, equity, funding and volatility conditions where zero is the long-run average.

How to read it
Above zero means conditions are tighter than average; below zero, looser.
Common mistake
The units are points, not percent, and it describes now — it does not predict a crisis.
#

Realized volatility

The standard deviation of returns that already happened, annualised.

How to read it
Higher means the price has been swinging harder recently.
Common mistake
It is not implied volatility like the VIX — it looks backwards, not forwards.
#

High-yield spread

The extra yield low-rated corporate bonds pay over government bonds of the same maturity, the price of lending into risk.

How to read it
Widening means the market is pricing more default risk; narrowing means more appetite for it.
Common mistake
It sometimes leads equities and sometimes lags them. The spread alone does not settle direction.
#

Recession probability

A model estimate, usually from the yield curve, of the chance a recession begins within twelve months.

How to read it
The direction over several months matters more than the level.
Common mistake
It is a historical pattern applied to today, not a forecast. Different models disagree widely.

Drawdown · max drawdown

Drawdown is how far today's price sits below the highest close in the window; max drawdown is the deepest trough in that same window.

How to read it
Drawdown is where you are today; max drawdown is the worst it got — they do not measure the same thing.
Common mistake
Both use official closes only. Intraday highs and lows are excluded, so the figures can read shallower than what actually printed. A record, not a forecast.

Analysis

Maximum drawdown (MDD)

The largest peak-to-trough decline over a period.

How to read it
It answers "how far underwater did this go at its worst?"
Common mistake
A past maximum is not a floor — deeper declines are always possible.
#

Beta

How much this name moved, on average, for each 1% move in the market.

How to read it
Above 1 means it swung more than the market; below 1 means less.
Common mistake
It is an average computed from the past and it changes with the window you pick.
#

Underwater curve

How far below its prior peak a price sits, plotted over time. It touches zero only at a new high.

How to read it
It shows how deep the drawdown went and how long it lasted. The name Mulmit, meaning underwater, comes from this chart.
Common mistake
It is not a price chart. A rally that fails to exceed the old peak still leaves the curve below zero.
#

Constituent heatmap

A treemap of an index's members. Box size is market capitalisation; colour is that day's move.

How to read it
It shows at a glance whether a whole sector moved, and whether one large name carried it or many smaller ones moved together.
Common mistake
The heatmap on Mulmit is drawn by TradingView, not computed by Mulmit, and its colour thresholds follow that tool.

Chart indicators

Bollinger Bands

Bands drawn a number of standard deviations above and below a moving average — usually ±2σ around a 20-period mean.

How to read it
Narrow bands mean a quiet stretch, wide bands a volatile one. Price outside the band means an unusually large move.
Common mistake
The upper band is not a sell signal — in a strong trend price can ride it for a long time.
#

RSI

The ratio of recent gains to recent losses, scaled 0–100, usually over 14 periods.

How to read it
Above 70 means gains have dominated recently; below 30, losses have.
Common mistake
70 is not a top and 30 is not a bottom — in a strong trend RSI stays pinned for weeks.

Biotech and regulation

Clinical phase (1 / 2 / 3)

Stages of human testing, split by what each one asks. Phase 1 mostly looks at safety and dosing, phase 2 at whether it works and at what dose, phase 3 at how it compares with existing care.

How to read it
A higher phase means a larger trial asking a more decisive question. The phase shown here is the sponsor's own registry entry, copied as filed.
Common mistake
A later phase does not mean approval is near. Phase 3 failures are common, and the phase describes progress, not the odds of success.
#

스폰서가 등록부(ClinicalTrials.gov)에 스스로 적습니다.

Primary completion date

The date a trial plans to collect the last data point for its primary endpoint. Sponsors enter it themselves on ClinicalTrials.gov.

How to read it
A planning figure for when results might be assembled. Sorted by nearest date, it gives a rough calendar of what is coming.
Common mistake
It is a plan, not a commitment, and it moves often. Completion is also not the same as results being published, let alone approval.

FDA advisory committee (AdComm)

A public meeting where the FDA asks outside experts for their view before deciding on an application. Meetings are announced in the Federal Register.

How to read it
A scheduled meeting signals that the application has reached the decision stage. The date shown here is pulled from the notice's DATES paragraph.
Common mistake
The committee's opinion is advice, not a ruling — the FDA is not bound by it. A meeting being held says nothing about approval or rejection, and dates change.
#

MFDS product approval

Permission from Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to manufacture or import a drug for sale in Korea.

How to read it
The approval date is when the product became sellable. Prescription, new-drug and orphan designations are labelled separately.
Common mistake
It is a regulatory record, not a revenue promise. Some firms carry many generic or supplementary approvals, so the count alone says little about the business.
#

NDA · BLA (미국 신약 신청)

NDA · BLA (US drug applications)

Applications filed with the FDA to sell a drug in the US — NDA for chemically synthesised drugs, BLA for biologics. Generics go through ANDA instead.

How to read it
An approved original (ORIG) application means the drug can newly be sold in the US. This screen lists original approvals only.
Common mistake
Approval is a regulatory record; revenue and share price are separate questions. The approved indication and label conditions shape how widely it is actually used.

About this glossary

One file, two places

The pop-up you get by clicking a term on any screen and this page read the same file, so the same word cannot mean two things.

Not investment advice

These entries say how a figure is read, never what to buy or sell. The "common mistake" line marks exactly that boundary.

Something missing

If a word appears on a screen but not here, that is a gap. The goal is to use no word on screen that is not defined here.
